The Hermitage Amsterdam presents high-profile exhibitions with international collections. From Saturday 17 September 2022, the museum will be transformed into a ‘house of love’. The exhibition Love Stories – Art, Passion and Tragedy from the National Portrait Gallery in London showcases a large collection of masterpieces depicting love and love stories. Together they present a moving picture of how love and desire have shaped portraiture – from the late sixteenth century to the present. At the heart of the exhibition we display a series of real-life love stories about love in all its forms. From romantic love to the obsession of artists for their muse(s) and from love tragedies to love that conquers against all odds. Love Stories is a collaboration between the National Portrait Gallery in London, Hermitage Amsterdam and the Dutch National Portrait Gallery. On display until Sunday 8 January 2023.
